The MT500 manual recommends Multigrade SAE 15W50

Many owners run on mineral or semi-synthetic. In an emergency if you are low on oil and cant get your preferred grade, any engine oil is better than no oil !

2. Checking the oil level – An accurate reading on the dipstick is obtained when the engine is warm. The old may drop below dipstick lower level when cold and topping up then will usually result in over-filling and a mess when warmed up and it overflows!
